The Crown and Castle

The Crown and Castle is in Orford, a peaceful village sited a few miles south of Aldeburgh, on the beautiful Suffolk coast. The 3-star hotel has 19-bedrooms and is owned by Ruth Watson (presenter of channel 4's Country House Rescue and former Hotel Inspector on Five), David Watson, and Tim Sunderland, former General Manager of Hintlesham Hall.

There has been a hostelry on the site of the Crown and Castle for eight centuries. The original inn was, apparently, built into the walls of the C12th Orford castle but is now separated from it by a little lane.  A highlight of a summer stay is sitting on the terrace, having a pre-prandial drink, and watching the sun go down behind the castle.

The Crown and Castle has a highly regarded, informal restaurant called The Trinity, which holds 2 AA rosettes and a Michelin bib gourmand.
The beamed section of the Trinity offers a clue to its C16th origins, but most of the building was remodelled in the 1890s so the overall look of the hotel is Victorian.

We are open all year round for accommodation, lunch and dinner, only closing for 4-5 days during the first week of January.

PLEASE NOTE that we have enough parking on site for nearly every room but, when we are full, guests may occasionally have to use the (free) parking in the village square, by the castle, or outside the hotel. There are no traffic wardens in operation. Please always come to reception first anyway so we can help with bags.
